About AATD (Victoria)
• plays an important role in advocating for Teachers of the Deaf and their role in supporting learners who are deaf or hard of hearing in accessing and participating in education designed to meet their needs
• acts as an informed and responsible voice on the education of children and young people who are deaf and hard or hearing
• organises professional learning events to learn together and facilitate the expansion of professional networks
• keeps members abreast of professional learning opportunities, jobs within our sector and information which influences the field of deaf education
• facilitates interactions between professional groups, associations and agencies throughout Australia working with children and young people who are deaf and hard or hearing
• promotes unity, diversity and understanding between members of the teaching and other professions throughout Australia working with children and students who are deaf and hard of hearing
• seeks representation on policy making bodies which deal with matters relating to the education of children and young people who are deaf and hard or hearing
• through the National Association of Australian Teachers of the Deaf (NAATD) provides members with a national forum in order to communicate and share educational philosophies and practices relevant to the education of children and young people who are deaf and hard or hearing
• provides to its members 4 copies of the journal jointly produced by NAATD and BATOD (British Association of Teachers of the Deaf) Deafness & Education International.
