“Individual differences among deaf and hard-of-hearing children are greater than they are among hearing children. Particularly when multiple challenges are involved, but even when they are not, deaf children differ from each other in all of the ways that hearing children do plus in the quality and quantity of early language they receive; the breadth of their experience interacting with people and things in the world; and possible physical, psychological, or brain-related issues associated with the medical or hereditary causes of their hearing status.”

From Marschark, M., & Hauser, P. C. (2012). How deaf children learn: What parents and teachers need to know. New York: Oxford University Press
